First start of the engine before restoration on April
17, 2008 at 8:30 a.m.
The NB had not been started in 20 years,
as far as I know. With major help from Rick Fields, we worked on
the engine to see if we could get it started. We jury-rigged the
electrical and fuel system (OSHA approved, of course) and after a
few attempts it started right up. We discovered that the wobble plate
was missing between the cam and the generator, which were connected
directly together. The car ran, although not very well. After borrowing
a wobble plate from Lawrie Alexander, it ran much better, and I took
her for a spin up our steep driveway and down the street. |
Some of the
damages that needed repair on the NB in it's original condition (that
I received it in). |

There was damage around the fuel filler
hole, as shown above. The trailing edge of the body had cracked and
broken areas. (This is on the bottom rear of the body.) The fenders
were in excellent condition, except for the right rear which had
obviously been hit. Someone had added rear tail lights, and then
removed them leaving these patches. (Last photo shows rear view of
the patches.) To repair the bad patch job, 6 inch holes had to be
cut in the aluminum and new patches welded in. The body, doors, and
sides of the bonnet are made of aluminum, the rest is steel. |
Details of the car in the original received condition.
The original dash...notice the
2 missing switches. I plan to use a Craig Seabrook dash, but
I will refinish and keep this original one also. The thirty-mph
light is not in the dash, but the light was included, (minus
plastic lens.) Lucky me! The steering wheel is original and is
being restored. The original lube lines were also included with
the car. Photo number 8 (green frame with 2 holes) is where an
original luggage rack had been installed. The rest are just detail
photos for reference. |
